While looking through some old photos, I came across one of me standing next to\u00a0<strong>Jake Shimabukuro<\/strong>, both of us holding the\u00a0<strong>H\u014dk\u016b award for the first Pure Heart album<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 a project I was fortunate to be a part of.<em>A throwback to a time filled with inspiration, collaboration, and a deep love for local music.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That album captured something special \u2014 not just in the music, but in the energy and intention behind it. I still feel incredibly lucky to have played a small role in that journey, and I\u2019m always grateful for the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong> Celebrating This Year\u2019s Finalists<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fast forward to today, and it\u2019s amazing to see so many talented artists carrying the torch forward. This year\u2019s nominees in the \u02bbukulele and instrumental categories \u2014 folks like&nbsp;<strong>Kris Fuchigami<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Brittni Paiva<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Jake<\/strong>&nbsp;(this time alongside&nbsp;<strong>Mick Fleetwood<\/strong>) \u2014 are doing incredible work blending tradition with innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I also want to give a special shoutout to the&nbsp;<strong>Kapena School of Music<\/strong>, which is up for two awards:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>EP of the Year<\/strong>\u00a0and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Most Promising Artist of the Year<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<em>Play Loud, Vol.\u202f1<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As someone who teaches at Kapena, I\u2019m especially proud to see some of my own students featured on that recording. It\u2019s moments like this that remind me why teaching and music go hand in hand \u2014 lifting up the next generation of artists and helping them find their voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To all the nominees: mahalo for inspiring us.
